What do you hope in?

In a time of uncertainty, the "world" can only offer little hope.  Positive thinking can only last so long.  When facing the hardships, uncertainty and stress that life brings we need something that is not of our own, and something that is lasting.

From the moment we enter this world, we are growing closer to our final breath. The big question is...

Are YOU ready for eternity?

Let's be honest with ourselves, ETERNITY is a long time to be wrong.

Let's look at it from another direction.

According to our metric system, I am 6 feet tall. This is according to our standard metric system. If we were to meet someday, and you asked me how tall I am, and my reply was "I'm 22 feet tall,"  you would not only have to disagree, but you would think I am crazy. You would disagree because according to our standard metric system, the standard in place says that I am 6 feet tall, not 22 feet.

OK, now back to my question about eternity

If you were to survey and question people on the street, asking them this simple question, "Do you think that you will go to heaven when you die?" The majority of people will say yes or I hope so. The next question you could ask them is "why?" Why should you go to heaven?  Without hesitation, many will reply "because I'm a good person."

Here's the problem with that answer...

What is the standard by which they gauge that they are a good person?  Most people will then go on to say that they do not break the law, murder and overall they live a moral life. Think about this for a moment. No one, not even all the armies in the world were able to tell Adolf Hitler that he was not a good person. He was doing something HE believed to be "good";  he was being "moral" according to his own standard of living.

"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs chapter 16 verse 25

This is not referring to simply passing away.  Death in God's Word refers to not just physical death, but spiritual death. Eternal separation from God. Eternity is a long time to be wrong.

Don't miss this!

When we take our final breath it could be somewhat expected or by a sudden tragedy. We will all stand before God to give an account for our life. He will not ask us if we think we were good enough to enter into heaven. When we look God the Father in the eye, He will see a soul that trusted in His son Jesus or one who chose to reject Christ. Just as I have a standard that determines I am 6 feet tall, God has a standard for us to spend eternity in heaven with Him. We are not good enough on our best day;  we are frail, fallible, feeble and most of all sinful by nature. That is why God sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world. Which is why Jesus is the Hope of The World.

What is God's Standard...?

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life" JOHN chapter 3 verse 16

What a wonderful and encouraging truth of God's Word. Our creator God not only designed us, but He loves you. Loved you enough that though we are born into life spiritually dead, God the Father sent His only Son to give His life for you. Jesus gave His life for all;  He gave His life for YOU. Believing by faith that Jesus died on the cross for YOUR sins and believing that He rose from the dead is God's standard.  It's that simple.

YOU mean the world to God

But you have to admit something most are ashamed to admit, and you must make a choice that will change your life FOR GOOD.

Admit that you are a sinner...

You don't need to have kids to understand this application. Do you ever have to teach a child to have an attitude? Do you have to teach them to be selfish? Do you ever have to teach a child to do wrong? Never mind a child, you don't have to teach anyone these things. We are selfish and full of our own will by nature. More importantly, we are sinful by nature and there is absolutely nothing that you can do about it. YOU NEED JESUS. He is the Savior.  All you need to do is see your helplessness without Christ and ask Him to save you. Not helpless because you might be experiencing an uncertain future, but helpless because you are a sinner and you need a savior.

Jesus was not just a good man that died on a roman crucifix. He was God's only Son.  He is God.  He took the penalty and paid for the sin of the entire world. He not only died in your place, He rose from the grave three days later. He not only conquered sin, he abolished death.  As opposed to spending a Christ-less eternity paying for a life riddled with sin, God offers a gift of salvation releasing you from that bondage. It is free.  You do not have to work for it; God's gift is for all to receive.  The Bible says that "for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" Romans 6:23

Make it personal...

See your spiritual need and trust Christ today.

God does not promise a life free of hardship.  But God's Word does promise that if you trust Christ you will never be alone in this life;  you will always be able to rely on your God and Savior. When there is no other place to turn, Jesus is always there. I cannot imagine what my life and state of mind would be like without my relationship with Jesus, and the Godly compassionate support of my local church family.

Let's Review...

A. Acknowledge you are a sinner: Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:23

B. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ -  He died for you and rose from the dead: Romans 10:9-10

C. Call upon the name of the Lord: Romans 10:13

If you wish to trust Jesus as your Savior, you can pray this simple prayer.  These words will not save you, it is just a way that you're acknowledging by faith that you believe God's Word to be true and are trusting in Him for salvation.

"God, I know that within me is a life full of sin and am deserving of punishment. But i believe your son Jesus took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"
